Welcome to my Blog!

Welcome to my Blog!

I created Life Revisions with the hope of fostering discussion with my audience and, hopefully, help people along the way. Some of the content I provide is backed by scientific findings and my personal experience. I believe sharing my own anecdotal insights to be important, especially regarding OCD, as I have been diagnosed with this disorder.

One of the central aspects of my blog is knowledge translation. This refers to:

The process of synthesizing research evidence and communicating it in a form that is accessible, usable, and meaningful to non-expert audiences.

Another, equally important, central aspect is personal reflection. This blog serves as a way for me to walk through my thought processes on a myriad of topics circulating the mind. The reflections are not exclusively anchored on scientific literature as that would be incredibly tedious for me. Scientific literature just so happens to inform a lot of my opinions. Both the reader and I benefit, equally I hope, from these posts.

A little about me...

My background is in Psychology with a 1-year specialization in Clinical Psychology, in which I conducted an anxiety workshops and one-on-one talk therapy sessions. I also hold a Master's in Cognitive Science.

During my master's degree, I wrote two research papers surrounding the topic of anxiety within the two contexts, dating applications and social simulations. The latter involved creating a theoretical framework for an agent-based model (computer simulation) that is meant to simulate how individuals experience anticipatory anxiety in a workplace bullying scenario and how the former impacts the individual's decision-making and behavior. This research paper was accepted into a conference and is currently in-proceedings.

I was diagnosed with OCD around a year ago and have dealt with anxiety throughout my life. Writing this blog helps me as much, I hope, it helps you.

With Attention and Love,

João Carvalho
